The Artist

Bella Toso (b. 2000, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA) is a Danish-American artist who was born and raised in St. Paul, MN and recently returned to the United States after eight years in Copenhagen, Denmark. She holds a degree in Biology from the University of Copenhagen, a field of study that reflects her deep connection with nature and curiosity about life which inspires her artistic explorations. Since childhood, her passion has been fostering connection between people and with nature. This is what drives her above all else, as she sees it as a source of empowerment and a direct act of rebellion against inner and outer systems that limit freedom through atomization.

artist statement:
”My creative flow emerges from a deep connection with my intuition and nature. I have always sensed that there is a hidden pattern underlying all living things, a secret structure that reveals itself when I enter creative flow. I do not plan my works. They arise spontaneously as visual expressions of whatever is moving through my soul in the moment. Often, I find myself interpreting them afterward, as if they hold keys to something I’ve been processing unconsciously. In many of my works, recurring shapes and organic structures appear and I ponder whether they are echoes of a universal language written into the natural world or symbols from my subconscious, or both…

I see art as a form of perception, a way of sensing what the senses cannot see, hear, feel, taste… It is a dialogue with what cannot be seen or spoken, but only felt and intuited. For me, life itself is art and the creative process is a way of transforming experience and continuing to evolve. When I find myself caught in darkness I find that creating brings me back into alignment with my Light, and helps to illuminate my inner landscape.

Through my work, I offer an expression of my own soul as well as something universal: a glimpse into the invisible threads that connect us to ourselves, to each other, and to the living Earth. My hope is that my art can act as a catalyst for connection; a reminder of what we share, and what we long for most — understanding and connection.”
